AEP expands retail strategy in deregulated markets
American Electric Power (AEP) and AEP Retail Energy, AEP's unregulated subsidiary, will acquire BlueStar Energy Holdings and its independent retail electric supplier BlueStar Energy Solutions.
With the acquisition, AEP hopes to grow and solidify its position in the Ohio market, which will soon be deregulated.
Details of the agreement have not been disclosed but the transaction should be completed end of March 2012 if approved by the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission.
