People Power Company mobilizes free energy monitoring control app

People Power Company has announced the release of the People Power 1.0 mobile application for iPhone and Android, as well as the GreenX Hub and the GreenX Powerstrip, a hardware reference architecture that includes a smart hub and power strip for real-time energy monitoring and control.

People Power is mobilizing energy management by making its open, cloud-based energy platform available via a free app for Android and iPhones so that users can see their energy use in real time from their phone. People Power is creating an ecosystem of partners, which currently include meter monitoring device manufacturers like Blue Line Innovations and The Energy Detective (TED), to capture energy data and send it into its cloud.

Utilities can use People Power's Energy Services Platform as a web-based system to collect and view energy usage in real time from homes. Utilities can also create rules and control thermostats and plug loads to reduce energy use during critical peak load times.

"In the past, companies have mainly focused on monitoring only products, or solutions for utilities that do not benefit consumers," Gene Wang, CEO and Founder of People Power, said in an interview with FierceEnergy.  "Now, anyone can download this free app and get access to a great user experience, and utilities can also test the product in their areas to reduce energy use during peak times."
