Progress Energy Florida solar farm still needs funding
Progress Energy Florida has completed and signed an interconnection agreement in conjunction with Hamilton Energy Resources Opportunities (HERO) that will lead the way to the construction of a 70 MW solar farm.
Progress Energy assisted Hero with an interconnection study looking at Feasibility, System Impact and Facility Studies to ensure FERC guidelines and utility requirements were met.
Due to some regulatory barriers, it has been difficult to secure adequate project funding, but the Hamilton County Economic Development Authority has set aside for HERO an economic development grant for $350,000.
However, the project is still in need of funding.
"As such, we are now beginning to look for and aggressively examine strategic alternatives that will allow us to get the project built. This project is ideal for the right tax equity partner or a company looking to expand their strategic footprint in the United States," said HERO's Managing Director of Development, Jack Levine.
The project has been in the works since 2009.
