This graphic, the last in a series to be published by FierceEnergy, offers a regional look at the trends of the New Energy Consumer as revealed by a 2011 Zpryme survey.

The survey shows that the priorities and habits of energy consumers are pretty equal across the country. Across the board, saving money was cited as the top benefit to implementing smart grid technologies. By region, 89 percent of Midwest residents, 87 percent of Northeast residents, 85 percent of southern residents and 86 percent of western residents voted saving money as the top benefit.
Utilities should review these trends to better understand the thoughts and values of regional customer bases. By examining the results of the survey, utilities can work to improve consumer education and the service they provide to customers.
