Solar Electric Power Association: Silicon Valley Power number one in the sun
Silicon Valley Power, Santa Clara's electric utility, has been ranked number one in the country for solar installations by the Solar Electric Power Association (SEPA). The utility installed more than 1.8 mW of solar last year or an average of 39.9 watts per customer--more than double that of 2009.
According to SEPA's recently released "2011 Utility Solar Rankings Report," America's electric utilities are ramping up their use of solar power. It is logical that the Valley of the Sun would rank first on SEPA's list. However, the report reveals that solar power acceptance and usage is increasing outside of the Southwest.
