WES saves GSA millions in energy costs

World Energy Solutions (WES) has assisted the General Services Administration (GSA) in saving $35 million on electricity costs for federal agencies in New York. A successful set of online reverse auctions on behalf of GSA netted federal facilities more than $3.75 million in annual energy savings. The auctions procured more than 800 million kWh of electricity for GSA.

According to Pike Research's Eric Bloom, the number of procurement options in competitive electricity markets is only going to multiply over the next decade, as competitive electricity purchasing grows from 350,000 GWh today to more than 450,000 GWh by 2020.

"In all our years working together with GSA Region 2, we have never seen the auctions drive prices this low in New York, a powerful testament to the competitive dynamics of this procurement process and the strong supplier participation it elicits," said Jonathan Harvey, Vice President, Government, at World Energy Solutions, in a statement.
